Muscle pain and tenderness

  Muscle pain and tenderness is a common complaint in the elderly. It can be caused by a number of conditions including arthritis, muscle strain or injury, infections such as septicemia (blood poisoning) and cancer. It may also occur with certain medications such as anti-depressants, anti-convulsant, chemotherapy drugs and steroid use. The most common cause of muscle pain in the elderly is arthritis which can be due to osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
