The next big thing in vitamin D deficiency is the realization that our bodies are not as efficient at producing vitamin D from sunlight as we once thought. In fact, many people don’t produce enough to meet their needs. This means that more and more of us need to be taking supplements or eating foods rich in vitamin D.
This is a change from previous years when it was thought that most of us could get all the vitamin D we needed from exposure to sunshine (UVB). But now we understand that UVB doesn’t provide enough for everyone, so many of us need supplemental sources like food or supplements.
